Root is fueled by founder and director Julia’s passion for fermentation and food history. Root’s goal is to create a dynamic space that strengthens our connections to our food and to each other.

Pine Street Market

Pine Street Market practices the art of Whole Animal Butchery, which teaches us how to honor the life of the animal by skillfully utilizing every cut. Using age-old techniques such as curing, aging, smoking, and processing the lesser-known parts allows Pine Street Market to create delicacies that delight their customers while minimizing food waste.

They are also committed to sharing this knowledge with informative butchery workshops in everything from smoking meat to breaking down whole animals.

League of Kitchens: The League of Kitchens is a culinary dream-team of women from around the world who will virtually welcome you into their homes and teach you their family recipes.

Online Canning Classes: This list of online canning education resources can help you find the know-how you need to put food by for future seasons.

America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School: You can find just about anything you’re interested in learning related to the kitchen here. It has a monthly fee, but a 2-week free trial will give you a chance to see what you think.

 
 

 

Homestead Favorites

ATL:
King’s Apron: Chef Zu is one talented man: Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Herbalist, Vegan Chef, Food Historian, Raw Food Specialist, Recipe Developer, and Added Value Provider. Check out all he’s bringing to ATL.

Nourish in Black: Quianah invites us to imagine a black-owned space with Caribbean vibes and the welcoming feeling of the South, plant-based eats, good music, and beautiful houseplants & flowers for sale. Nourish Botanica is slated to open in 2021, but you can follow the project’s progress here.

Chicomecóatl: Chicomecóatl researches, lovingly creates, and nourishes with modern regenerative Mexican cuisine. Named after the ancient Aztec goddess of maíz, Chicomecóatl is a fitting tribute to founder Maricela Vega's forebearers, maíz farmers from Guanajuato, Mexico and producers of nixtamal.
